Fire

29-9-2012 First time I attended a seminar about fire prevention. I reached our kindergarten half an hour before the seminar. The talk was presented by a young handsome guy called Peter. He could not find the way to our kindergarten. Guess he search for it for quite some time. lolz. I did gain a lot brand new knowledge from the talk given by Peter such as how should we save our family or ourselves or our friends when the body is on fire. Do not ever use water to put off the fire it will make the skin cells melted and cause even severe damage to the skin. What can you do when the tall building where you are staying is on fire at the top and the bottom part? Your unit is in the middle of the building. Advise from Peter, please run back to your own unit. Then, use masking tape to cover the door gap in order to prevent the smoke from going in. Try to avoid from directly inhaled in those toxic smoke. Next, stand nearer to the window for more fresh air. There are many type of fire extinguisher and the most common one is the ABC dry powder extinguisher. If body is on fire, do not ever use the CO2 extinguisher which will only make things worst. Even though the seminar is short which is around 45 minutes but I did gain a lot knowledge. Now I understand why Selina, one of the S.H.E singer felt so pain when her body is burnt. There was a case where a kids was on fire and the mother tried to put off the fire using blanket and rolled the kid on the floor. But that is a wrong way to help the kid. The skin of the kid stick on the blanket and when the mother try to take away it, the kid’s skin peeled off. Then the mother has no choice but hug the kid trying to use her own body to put off the fire. The result, 90% of the kid’s body was burn. As they huddled together, the skin stick together when it melted. They were rushed to the hospital. The doctor had no choice but to use scissors to separated the two of them. The child was only two years old when the incident happened. He need to undergo plastic surgery for 16 years until he is 18 years old. Who will donate the skin to him? Yes, his parents. Those surgery were Hercules Task where, if the skin taken from the donor could not stick onto the child’s skin, doctor will redo the operation. Imagine the pain that the child bear as there is still a long journey for him throughout the life. Thus, when compared to two cases, one child was dead in the fire and this boy survived but have to bear all the pain. Who is more lucky? The lecturer asked. I paused. Yes, the kid who had passed away is more lucky. He does not need to suffer for the whole life. If you love your family, please learn how to protect them. Prevention is always better than cure. And for emergency call in Malaysia, please dial 999 for calling the fire station. If your handphone has no sim card, you still can call 112 for emergency. The number is internationally recognized as the emergency call number.
